Counselor Basics: Pickle and Behavioral Management - Boys

About the course

This 2-hour training is full of practical "What to say" and "What to do" so you can come to camp prepared to give your bunk the best. Part 1) Introducing the Pickle: How to make waiting for the bus in 103 degrees the best part of camp. Part 2) CPR of behavioral management: Consistent, Prompt, Reasonable.  Participants will be able to:

  1. Introduce activities with words and body language that increase excitement and participation
  2. Execute activities with more engagement and camper involvement 
  3. Say and do things that build positive relationships with campers
  4. Execute a successful first "bunk meeting" that ensures clear written rules, expectations, and reasonable consequences 
  5. Enforce rules consistently, promptly, and reasonably
  6. Give directions in 6 ways, without telling campers what to do
  7. Use the "Broken Record" when campers don't listen the first time
